Philosophy of the Ultimate Bitless Bridle
Care should be taken to train your horse to respond to the lightest rein aide possible. The Ultimate Bitless Bridle has a double cross under strap system which, when cinched down with a HEAVY rein aide, will stay cinched until the horse licks and chews or opens its mouth in some way (you can also manually loosen the straps until your horse learns how to open its mouth on its own). This cinching is a safety mechanism which ensures that in an emergency situation the bridle will stay in place with no shifting, twisting or bunching.
When the horse is responding to a light rein aide the cross under straps will not cinch down.
If a horse is not responding to a light rein aide the bridle will remain pressurized and care should be taken to train the horse to respond to the lightest rein aide possible.
Some horses feel the cinching and feel claustrophobic. These horses need clear communication with practice to understand to release to a lighter pressure. With practice most horses easily transition into the Ultimate Bitless Bridle. This means that the rider has the responsibility to help the horse understand so that the horse is happy and relaxed in the bitless contact.
The bridle requires moments of stillness during initial training or after a spook or other intense reaction, for the horse to lick and chew or yawn which will release the cross under straps and thus help the horse relax and become familiar with the bridle.
When the horse is responding to a light rein aide the cross under straps will not cinch down.
